San Luis Valley Area Health Education Center CCTRP has partnered with the San Luis Valley Area Health Education Center (SLV AHEC) . AHEC is based in Alamosa, Colorado. They support CCTRP by allowing medical, dental and pharmacy students from the University of Colorado (Denver Anshutz Medical Campus) to volunteer with the riding program. AHEC also informs staff and volunteers at CCTRP of pertinent workshops. 2010 PATHI National Conference and Annual Meeting November 3-6 Denver, Colorado Carol Pastore, Director of Bridges of Health Challenge Colorado Therapeutic Riding Program, was able to reconnect with an old time friend. Lynday Miller, PhD. is the President of the Board for Cloud Dancers Therapeutic Riding Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Miller was one of Carol's professors when she attended college at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the 70"s. Talk about a blast from the past. Both Dr. Miller and Carol agreed to keep in touch. Therapeutic Riding Program (CCTRP) Director/Co-Founder Carol Pastore
and Cathy Spangler, R.N.,CCTRP consultant/volunteer, recently had
the opportunity to attend the American Hippotherapy Association,
Inc. (AHA) International Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. They
were able to attend several sessions and network with other
professionals. A highlight of the conference was attending the
keynote address given by Dr. Carolyn Baum. The address titled
Evolution of the Classification Systems of Disability was very
informative. Dr. Tim Shurtlefft, chaired a panel discussion on
Business Models for Hippotherapy. Dr. Beth Macauley presented
Daily Effects of Hippotherapy on Speech and Walking Ability of two
clients. Dr. Debbie Silkwood-Sherer presented on the Effects of
Hippotherapy on Sensory Organization for Postural Control in
children with Autism. The three day conference
had several informative sessions.

FYI Definitions: "Equine Assisted Therapy" Wikipedia defines Equine Assisted Therapy as the use and partnering with the horse with a licensed, credentialed profession to provide therapy or treatment within the professionals scope of practice. Various licensed medical professional work with horses and the equine environment to provide treatment.
